Hot spring bread (hverabrauð) is rye bread that’s traditionally baked in a pot underground near geothermal hot springs for 24 hours. Geothermal spa and bakery Laugarvatn Fontana, on the Golden Circle, offers geothermal bakery tours. Guests watch as a pot of fresh bread is dug out from hot black sand and then taste it served fresh from the ground with Icelandic butter!
